My name is Andrew and my favorite color used to be orange.
I went out of my way to wear orange clothes. I only ate the orange starbursts. My favorite sport was basketball. I didn’t even like the fruit, I just loved the color.
It was just me and my buddy orange… until a life defining moment in Mrs. Gooden’s 2nd grade class…
We were being separated into groups based on our favorite colors and I quickly realized all of my friends were either going into the blue group or the green group and that I was, in fact, all by my lonesome at a circle table reserved for orange.
I don’t fault myself for giving up on orange. I didn’t lose my integrity or individuality or sense of self at an early age. I don’t blame peer pressure. It just isn’t fun to sort m&ms or do color related math problems by oneself. Also, how am I supposed to make a rhyming poem about orange?
So, now my favorite color is blue and this is the complicated answer I tell to people who simply want to know what my favorite color is.
the end
Bahaha, I love this! Great use of graphics to help explain your story! 😀
Awesome story! did you draw the graphics too?
yes, I did. I actually drew them on paper and then scanned them, then realized my scanner is miserable for that sort of thing, so I filtered and colored them in photoshop. Now it just looks like a did them in mspaint…
Haha!! I really like your story. It made me laugh. I have to admit that the graphics are pretty awesome. Also, this story has forever changed my idea of what kind of answer to expect when asking someone “What’s your favorite color?” Great intro.
Don’t worry, I have long drawn out answers for most of the other basic get-to-know-you questions as well. “Where are you from?” and “do you have any siblings?” are always fun err…insightful…
Andrew,
I have to echo previous commentators, your story was awesome, and the colored graphics really made it. It as custom made for this medium, short, witty, and very graphic (in the visual, not gore, sex and blog way 🙂 ).
beautiful way to get the ball (which is orange not blue) rolling.
I don’t blame you for liking orange as a kid… orange starbursts are tasty. Orange is a pretty difficult flavor to mess up in candy. Blue and green can go either way.
Andrew, I love your use of graphics in this! They were an excellent choice as they fit perfectly with your story!
checking to see if I’ve finally got my profile picture set up
